The Retirement Consultant (RC) is a part of a team responsible for managing over $3.5 billion in annual asset retention. This includes helping 401(k) participants who are retiring or terminating employment. As a Retirement Consultant, you will educate, guide, and assist participants in understanding the various options available to them, ensuring they make informed decisions that align with their financial goals.

The RC will be an expert in John Hancock’s 401(k) and IRA product offerings, including:

  • JH Mutual Fund IRA
  • JH Managed IRA
  • JH Guaranteed Income for Life Variable Annuity IRA (GIFL)

This role also requires a deep understanding of the investment options available and the advice-based methodologies that support successful rollovers into John Hancock IRAs. The position is both dynamic and rewarding for individuals who enjoy working with customers and solving financial challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be part of a phone-based team focused on helping 401(k) participants make decisions regarding their retirement assets when they leave their employers.
  • Educate participants on their distribution options, providing clear, tailored guidance to help them make informed decisions.
  • Quickly assess the needs of participants and present the best available options based on their financial situation.
  • Collaborate with financial advisors, referring leads as necessary to key business partners.
  • Become well-versed in John Hancock’s retirement product offerings and investment tools such as the proprietary Fund Matching Tool.
  • Assist participants with the opening and funding of John Hancock IRA accounts.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service while guiding participants through the decision-making process.
  • Achieve monthly activity targets and participate in training to enhance skills.

Job Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience in financial services, especially in phone-based or sales roles.
  • Must have passed the Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) exam, Series 6 and 63 exams (Series 65 must be obtained within six months of hire).
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Passion for helping individuals make personalized financial decisions.
