    Commonwealth Youth Gender & Equality Network (CYGEN) Call for Members

    To address gender equality concerns in local, national, regional, and Commonwealth agendas, CYGEN is now hiring a new batch of Commonwealth Youth Activists. Being the first gender-based youth organization in the Commonwealth, CYGEN works to elevate youth voices and promote deeper and more meaningful youth involvement in governance, processes, and structures.

    Benefits of Commonwealth Youth Gender & Equality Network (CYGEN)

    As a network participant, you will have the chance to:

    • Represent CYGEN at forums on gender equality at the national, regional, Commonwealth, and international levels.
    • Join a select online community of young activists addressing gender equality problems.
    • Participate in mentorship programs, workshops, and seminars designed especially for CYGEN members.
    • Engage in studies examining juvenile concerns from the standpoint of gender parity.
    • Give technical guidance on how to include the opinions of young people in the creation of programs.

    Eligibility Criteria for Commonwealth Youth Gender & Equality Network (CYGEN)

    However, each candidate must completely meet the standards listed below:

    • Possess citizenship in a Commonwealth nation.
    • Be between 18 and 29 years old on December 31, 2024.
    • Possess a track record of work on gender issues (academic or professional) that can be verified.
    • Possess a sincere dedication to addressing gender disparity;
    • Strongly identify with the CYGEN and Commonwealth values as outlined in the Gender Agenda.

    Applications are invited for the West African Research Association (WARA) Residency Fellowship 2024. Are you interested in pursuing research in West Africa? The West African Research Association (WARA) is offering Residency Fellowships for the year 2024, with a stipend available.

    The goal of the fellowship is to foster transatlantic exchange and collaboration between scholars in West Africa and the United States. During the 4-8 weeks residency, visiting scholars will have the opportunity to do library research, give guest lectures, and/or collaborate with American colleagues. Please note that residencies are intended only as temporary exchanges and are not intended to replace faculty positions. Applications are due by March 3, 2024.

    West African Research Association (WARA) Residency Fellowship 2024 (Stipend available)

    With financing from the US State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the West African Research Association offers Residencies to its member institutions, allowing them to host a West African Scholar on campus to foster transatlantic exchange and collaboration.

    The visiting scholar will have the opportunity to do library research, give guest lectures, and/or collaborate with American colleagues during each 4-8 weeks residency. Note that residencies are intended only as temporary exchanges and are not intended to replace faculty positions.

    Cost for West African Research Association (WARA) Residency Fellowship 2024

    • The chosen scholar will get reimbursement from WARA for their round-trip airfare as well as a $3,500 stipend to assist with local transportation and feeding expenses.
    • For the duration of the residence, host universities are urged to offer extra assistance in the form of lodging, office space, library privileges, laboratory facilities, or other resources.

    Requirements for West African Research Association (WARA) Residency Fellowship 2024

    • The name and contact details of the WARA host institution representative.
    • A 50–80words summary of the suggested residence that explains its goal in detail and includes the host institution’s contact information.
    • A proposal that is no longer than six (6) double-spaced pages that includes a profile of the visiting scholar, the activities that are planned for the residency, how the residency will advance WARA’s objectives, the anticipated impact or result of the residency, and any support that the host institution is willing to provide.
    • A list of the visiting scholar’s qualifications.
    • The scholar’s letter of interest.
    • A letter of recommendation from an appropriate host institution administrator, such as the department head or dean.
    • A copy of the scholar’s passport serving as proof of citizenship (note: only academics who qualify for U.S. non-immigrant visas will be taken into consideration).

    WARA Post-doctoral Fellowship 2024 (Funding available)

    With financing from the US State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the West African Research Association (WARA) runs an annual competition for post-doctoral fellowships to promote transatlantic exchange and collaboration. During the summer of this year, the WARA Post-Doctoral Fellowship will fund two to three months of research in West Africa.

    The goals of the fellowship are to: 1) finish or expand upon an earlier project; 2) start a new research project; or 3) increase understanding of a particular topic to improve teaching effectiveness or expand course offerings.

    Eligibility Criteria for WARA Post-doctoral Fellowship 2024

    U.S. citizens who currently hold a Ph.D. and are employed in academia or a related field (such as public health or museology) are eligible to enter this competition. Within the last three years, each applicant must have been connected to a higher education or research institution. It is recommended that candidates speak the African language that is spoken in the area where they plan to conduct research.

    Benefits of WARA Post-doctoral Fellowship 2024

    • A maximum of $3,500 stipend and round-trip airfare to a West African nation will be awarded for each fellowship. The West African Research Center (WARC) in Dakar, Senegal, can offer recommendations for housing in the fellow’s selected nation as well as academic contacts and affiliations.

    • Summary (50–80 words).
    • Six-page proposal that is double-spaced.
    • CV or resume.
    • An itemized budget that includes projected expenses for lodging, meals, travel, gear, printing and photocopying, and fees associated with university affiliation.
    • List of references.
    • Two reference letters, each with the recommender’s signature.
